Business leaders today have been taught to promote self-interest and compete to optimize for profit. This results in a ‘means to an end’ mentality that produces uninspired and extractive outcomes.
Through cooperation and growing understanding we can re-inspirit our work and evolve our systems.
Here is an example of a framework we use in our work to assess various factors in a decision or challenge. By considering, valuing, and appreciating not only the activating (or driving) forces , but also the restraining (or limiting) forces of a decision, we can usually find new, reconciling ideas we hadn’t thought of before. The reconciling third force emerges from an energy of valuing both the activating and restraining forces, and is a force that is of a different order so it addresses both sides without compromise.. This allows us to approach business decisions that are traditionally framed in a binary, “good/bad”, “right/wrong”, and find a path forward that is a reconciliation.
